How does the Check4® Pregnancy Urine test work?

When a woman becomes pregnant, her body begins to produce an hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is excreted in the urine where its concentration rises over time. The Check4® Pregnancy Urine test uses a pair of antibodies for the specific detection of the hCG hormone in urine having a concentration of 25 mIU/mL (as determined against W.H.O.* reference) or higher. The Check4® Pregnancy Urine test detects the hCG hormone in urine.

When should the Check4® Pregnancy Urine test be used?

You can use the Check4® Pregnancy Urine test any time of day or night, as soon as a menstrual period is one day late. But in case of very early pregnancy (8 to 10 days after conception) it is recommended to use the first morning urine.

A high fluids intake may dilute the urine and make the hCG detection more difficult. A normal fluids intake is therefore recommended.

Can the result be incorrect?

If you are unable to determine whether or not a line is present in the oval test window, repeat the test after 2-3 days with a new Check4® Pregnancy Urine test device. If the result is positive the line will appear darker than the previous result. If you follow the instructions you should get accurate results. Certain drugs which contain hCG or that are used in combination with hCG (such as Pregnyl, Porfasi, Pergonal) and rare medical conditions may give a false positive result. Alcohol, analgesics, antibiotics, birth control pills, hormone therapies containing clomiphene citrate (such as Clomid, Serophen) or painkillers should not affect the test result. The test may give a false positive result if you have had a miscarriage, abortion or have given birth within the past 8 weeks. This is because the test may detect hCG still in your body from a previous pregnancy.

I left the absorbent tip in my urine for more than 10 seconds. Will I still obtain a correct result?

Yes. A few extra seconds will not affect the results.

I left the absorbent tip in my urine for less than 5 seconds. Will I still obtain a correct result?

No, because the urine sample volume may be too small.

How do you interpret the test if the colour and the intensity of the lines are different?

As long as you see a line in each window, the test result is positive.

What is the line that appears under the mark C (Control) for?

When this line appears, it only means that the test was performing well.

If I read the result after 10 minutes, will the result be reliable?

If you read the test before 5 minutes, you may not give the test enough time of work, and the test result may not be accurate. The appearance of a line in the Control window will tell you the test is finished and you may read the result. DO NOT INTERPRET the results obtained more than 10 minutes after having brought the absorbent tip into contact with urine.

What do I have to do if the result is positive?

If the result is positive, you should see your physician to discuss your pregnancy and next steps. Early prenatal care is important to ensure your health and your baby’s one.

What do I have to do if the result is negative?

If the test is negative, it is most likely that your urine contains insufficient levels of hCG (the test measures levels of hCG as low as 25mIU/ml) and you are probably not pregnant. However, you may have miscalculated when your period was due, especially if you have irregular periods. If your period does not start within a week, repeat the test. If you still get a negative result and your period has not started, you should see your physician. This delay could be caused by other reasons.

How accurate is the Check4® Pregnancy Urine test?

Evaluation reports show an overall agreement of at least 99% with reference methods.
