How does the Check4® Pregnancy Urine Test + work?

When a woman is pregnant, her body begins to produce a hormone called hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). It is present in the urine in amounts which increase with time. The Check4® Pregnancy Urine Test + is based on detection of this hormone.

When should the Check4® Pregnancy Urine Test + be used?

The test can be carried out at any time of day, from the first day when a period is overdue : however, the first urine of the morning contains a large quantity of hCG and allows the best results to be obtained.

High liquid intake can dilute the urine and make precise detection of hCG difficult. You should therefore drink normally.

Can the result be incorrect?

The results are accurate as long as the instructions are followed to the letter; however the results can be false if the Check4® Pregnancy Urine Test + is dampened before the test. The Check4® Pregnancy Urine Test + is a high-precision test, confirmed by rigorous quality control but, in some exceptional cases, false results can occur (a negative result for a pregnant woman or a positive result for one who is not). In case of unexpected or contradictory results, you are advised to consult a doctor, as certain health problems can result in false diagnoses.

I kept the absorbent tip in the urine for more than 10 seconds. Will I obtain an accurate result?

Yes. A few extra seconds will not affect the results.

I kept the absorbent tip in the urine for less than 10 seconds. Will I obtain an accurate result?

No, because the sample volume may not be sufficient.

How do you interpret the test if the colour and the intensity of the lines are different?

The shade or intensity of the band is of no importance. If the test is positive, a band of a pink shade appears in the Test area (“T”) which does not have to be identical to the colour of the drawing or that of the band in the Control area (“C”). This is because, during pregnancy, the level of hCG increases gradually in the urine, which intensifies the colour or shade of the band. In case of low concentration of hCG (at the
beginning of the pregnancy), the colour intensity is weak but you should read the result as positive.

What is the line that appears under the mark C (Control) for?

When this line appears, it only means that the test was performing well.

If I read the result after 10 minutes, will the result be reliable?

In case of a negative result, a pale band may appear in the Test area (“T”) after 10 minutes. This band which appears IS NOT a positive result. Remember: DO NOT INTERPRET the results obtained later than 10 minutes after the absorbent tip has been brought into contact with the urine.

What do I have to do if the result is positive?

If the result is positive, you should see your physician. Early diagnosis of pregnancy is important to ensure your health and that of your baby.

What do I have to do if the result is negative?

If the results are negative, the hCG of pregnancy has not been detected because you are not pregnant. If a week later you have still not begun your period, repeat the test with another Check4® Pregnancy Urine Test + device. If the test is still negative and no menstrual period occurs, consult your physician. This delay may be caused by other reasons.

How accurate is the Check4® Pregnancy Urine Test +?

In clinical and in vitro studies, the test has been more than 99% reliable. Although this test is very reliable, false positive or false negative results could be obtained.
